Watermelon Game Review

Watermelon Game Background

Watermelon game is an idle fruit merging game. Your objective is to keep drop and merge fruits. Keep merging fruits until you form the watermelon (or run out of space).

The game was inspired by Suika Game and has elements similar to 2048.

How to Play Watermelon Game

You begin with your current fruit on the top center and the next fruit on the top right corner. Left click with your mouse or tap on the screen with your fingers to drop the fruit in the area you selected. The fruit will fall down and may roll a bit. Afterward, repeat the process again with the next fruit.

When you drop two identical fruits, they merge into a slightly larger fruit. The game automatically generates the first five kinds of fruit. The others must be made through merging. Keep merging until you form the watermelon.

As you pile the fruits closer to the top, a dashed line appears. When a fruit goes past this line, all the fruits pop and the game ends.

You earn points as you merge fruits. The number of points you earn depend on the size of the fruits. Merging a pair of blueberries, for instance, is worth 1 point. You can keep track of your current score on the top right corner of the screen. Your browser saves your best score, which appears on the welcome screen just above the game’s title.

Basic Gameplay Advice

Use forward thinking. The game lets you plan two steps ahead by showing you the next fruit on the top right corner. Have a spot for both fruits ready before dropping the current fruit.

Orderly placement is your friend. Do not let fruits block other fruits from merging. Doing so wouldn’t only to wasted opportunities for merging later down the line. It will also lead to the formation of huge cavities (spaces between fruit) that make the fruit stack much higher than it needs to be.

Drop the fruits carefully to make sure they land where they should. Ideally, you should wait for the fruits to stop moving before you drop the next one. Sometimes, letting the fruits settle down will also save you the trouble of trying to knock them together. Likewise, if you think a pair of fruits need a slight nudge to merge, consider dropping another fruit next to them. Just be sure that the fruit you use doesn’t stand in the way of another potential pair.

Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy

Your end goal is to create the watermelon. To accomplish this, you must find a way to merge the fruits efficiently. The key to this is to plan your merges with care. One strategy is to keep the larger fruits on one side (e.g. the right) and the smaller fruits on the other slowly build them up.

One of the main challenges of the late game are low-value fruits, which take a while to merge into something useful. In an ideal scenario, you should put them close together so they merge quicker. In less than optimal scenarios, however, consider tossing them to the sides to keep them from standing in between larger-valued fruits.

Play slowly. Fruit-merger games aren’t timed, and this is no exception. Plan out each of your moves carefully to minimize the likelihood of making mistakes.

Educational Aspects

This game illustrates (though doesn’t label) different types of fruits. As shown by the strategy section above, it also teaches the value of patience and thinking two steps ahead.

Player Age Recommendations

This game a slow-paced game that we recommend for older children and adults. The game is easy to learn and not that difficult to master once you figured out a strategy. The game’s lack of time limits make it a relaxing game to play.
