Watermelon Game Review

Watermelon Game Background

Watermelon is a simple merging game. The goal is to drop and merge identical pairs of fruit until you form the watermelon. When the pile of fruits reaches the top of the container, the game ends. The game is inspired by Suika game and shares many of its rules and strategies.

How to Play Watermelon

Left click or tap on the play button at the center of the welcome screen to begin. You begin with the current fruit at the top center and the next fruit on the top right corner. Left click or tap and swipe to aim, then release to drop it. You can drop the first five fruits; the remaining fruits are produced by merging.

To merge, drop one fruit next to an identical fruit. They will turn into a fruit of a larger value. The fruits’ merging cycle surrounds the next fruit indicator on the top right corner. The merging cycle goes clockwise from the top and ends with the watermelon. Keep merging for as long as you can.

You are limited mainly to the size of your container. Once the fruit pile reaches the rim of the container, the game does not immediately end; however, it will only be a matter of time before it does, so try to bring down the fruit pile before that happens. On the game over screen, you can either return to the welcome screen or play another round.

Basic Gameplay Advice

Think two steps ahead. You already see both the current and next fruits; ideally, you should prepare a spot for both fruits before dropping the current one.

Place the fruits in as orderly a manner as you can. Make sure that smaller fruits don’t come in between larger ones. Ordered placement also keeps the stack from getting too high; chaotic placement will create large, empty spaces between the fruits that will bring the pile closer to the top of the container than it should.

Pay attention to the game’s physics. Fruits will usually roll after you drop them, and any changes to the stack will cause the fruits to roll or jiggle. Wait until the pile of fruits settles to make sure the fruit you drop lands where it should. Waiting a little longer also gives time for some fruits to merge by themselves. Alternately, if fruits need a slight nudge to merge them together, consider dropping a fruit next to one of them. Be careful not to come between them.

Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy

The game does not have a time limit, which works to your advantage. Take the time to judge where your fruits should drop before doing so. Be careful, though, as one misstep (such as releasing your click or tap before you finalized your next move) can set you back.

A good way to efficiently merge the fruits is by lining them up from smallest to biggest (from left to right). This will allow you to put smaller fruits away from their bigger counterparts. Smaller fruits can be a hazard in the late game as they can come between larger fruits and keep them from merging. If arranging the fruits in an orderly manner isn’t doable, consider throwing the smaller fruits in a corner away from the bigger ones.

Educational Aspects

The game teaches basic strategy and forward thinking. It also stresses the value of patience; the best results often come from playing the game slowly and carefully. While it features different types of fruits, it does not label them.

Player Age Recommendations

The game is an idle game ideal for a broad age group ranging from school-aged children to adults. Not only is the game easy to pick up, it is also slow-paced and easygoing. Playing this game is a great way to unwind.
