How to Play Thorn and Balloons

Select the play button at the center of the welcome screen to begin, then choose a level from the level selection screen. Your web browser saves your game progress automatically.

You begin with a spiked ball (the “thorn”) and a container filled with colored balloons. Shoot the spiked ball by selecting it with your mouse or fingers, pulling back, and releasing. Carefully aim the ball by pulling back in a specific direction; remember, the ball moves in the opposite direction you pull.

You only have one shot to take out all the balloons in the level. Pop all the balloons to beat the level. If you miss or fail to pop them all, select the reset button on the fail screen to start over.

Basic Gameplay Advice

The strength of your shot depends on the length you pull. You must shoot at the right strength to bounce the ball effectively. Make your shot too strong and there is a strong chance that the ball will hit something else.

The game has 90 levels, which must be unlocked in sequence. Selecting the arrow button on the win screen loads the next level.

Unlike other versions of this game, this one has no time limit. Take as much time as you need before shooting.

Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy

Some levels have no moving barriers and can be solved by shooting the ball at the correct angle. However, for levels with moving barriers, you must also time your moves. Shoot the ball at the right time to get past the barrier and pop all the balls.

Geometry is your ally. Shoot the ball toward walls in such a way that the ball will bounce around the area where the balloons are. In some cases, even moving platforms can help if you time it just right.

All in all, you must sometimes rely on trial and error to solve the game. Try shooting the ball from different angles and see where it goes. Try to avoid the angles that you know didn’t work out. When you think it’s getting closer, make slight adjustments to it until you get it all done.
