Tetra Blocks Game Review

Tetra Blocks Game Background

Tetra Blocks is a neon-themed line-breaking game. Drop the blocks consisting of 4 units and form full lines of blocks to clear them. Keep playing for as long as you can.

The game was developed by the game studio Ravalmatic. The game is, of course, inspired by the original Tetris developed by Alexei Pajitnov.

How to Play Tetra Blocks

To select, left click with your mouse or tap on the touchscreen with your fingers. Select the play button at the center of the welcome screen to begin.

With your keyboard, press the left and right arrows or the A and D keys to move the piece from side to side. Press the down arrow to or S key to bring down the piece faster. Press the up arrow or W key to spin the piece as it descends. Press the space bar to drop the piece abruptly.

With your fingers, tap on the screen with your fingers and swipe to the left or right to move the piece sideways. Tap on the screen to rotate the piece. Tap and swipe to move the piece down faster; tap and swipe quickly to drop the piece.

Basic Gameplay Advice

In general, the controls of this game work better when played on a touchscreen device.

Form full lines out of the pieces to clear them from the shaft. You can clear up to 4 lines at once. Keep forming and clearing lines for as long as you can until the stack of blocks reaches the top of the shaft. The blocks move faster as you progress through the levels. When the blocks reach the top, it’s game over.

You earn 40 points for every line you clear. Unlike other Tetris-inspired games, you can earn extra points through stars present in some of the falling pieces. Align these stars when creating rows and clear them at the same time to get a score bonus, which starts at 100 points for every pair you clear.

You can compare your recent and best scores on the game over screen.

Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy

In most Tetris-style games, players tend to leave a space on one side for a long line piece to clear 4 lines at once. We recommend doing this in the early part of the game while the blocks still fall down slowly. Toward the latter part of the game, we instead suggest forming and clearing any line you can to prevent the stack from growing too high.

In some cases it can make sense to make the stack a bit ugly early if needed to align stars which activate the star bonuses as you clear the associated lines.

Educational Aspects

This game tests a player’s reaction times and ability to make split-second decisions, especially around the higher levels. It also encourage spatial thinking, in particular the ability to fit
