Supermarket Simulator Game Review
Game Background
This is a retro-styled shop simulator where you play as the lone employee of a shop. Clean up the store, check out items at the register, and restock the store.
This game should not be confused with Notka Games’ early-access first-person simulator of the same name.
How to Play
Select Play at the center of the screen to begin. To get an overview of the tasks you need to accomplish, select How to Play on the bottom left corner.
Your task is to manage the store by yourself. This consists of three major tasks:
- Clean spills
- Scan and bag groceries
- Restock shelves
Use the WASD keys on your keyboard and your mouse when playing on a desktop. Press the W key to move up, press the S key to move down, press the A key to move to the left, and press the D key to move to the right. Left click with your mouse to select. When playing on a touchscreen device, tap on the arrow buttons with your fingers to move. Tap on the left arrow to move to the left, tap on the right arrow to move to the right, tap on the up arrow to move up, and tap on the down arrow to move down. Tap on the screen to select.
Basic Gameplay Advice
Customers wander the store and will move toward the checkout counter once they’re done. You must let go of any held items before you can check groceries. To check out groceries, select an item on the cashier booth and drag it to the scanner. A red light will glow to indicate that the item has been scanned. Drag the scanned item to the bag. Repeat the process until all the items have been checked and bagged. Once done, the grocery bag goes to the customer. Customers only go to the checkout counter one at a time.
From time to time, customers leave behind spills on the floor. To clean up spills, first move to the utility room door at the bottom center of the screen and pick up the mop on the left side of the room. With the mop, move to the spill to clean it. You can only clean one spill at a time. Move the mop back to the utility room once it’s soiled and clean it by moving to the bucket on the right side. Move the mop to the left side to drop it.
Once a shelf is out of stock, an arrow will point to the big door at the top center of the screen. Move there to drive to the distribution center. Be careful not to hit the other cars on the road. Once in the distribution center, pick up a box and drop it into the truck. Repeat the process until you’ve got enough boxes to stock the shelves. Enter the truck and drive back to the store. Once in the store, select the boxes to stock the shelves.
Your earnings are shown on the bottom left corner of the screen. The money you earned is used to pay for the groceries.
Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy
The customers have a lot of patience and will not leave your store out of frustration. You can leave them waiting for a little bit while you attend to other chores such as spills.
Each time you reload the game, you retain your earnings while giving your store a soft reboot. The shelves will be stocked and the spills will be gone. Do this if you can’t otherwise stock your store.
Don’t leave the stains unattended for too long. They start overlapping over time, which makes a once simple chore much harder to address.
Educational Aspects
The game is a simplified view of the inner workings of a grocery store. Players are also encouraged to prioritize important tasks to make sure they don’t become a bigger problem down the line.
Player Age Recommendations
This game is appropriate for both school-aged children and adults. Younger players might find it slow-paced. We recommend for fans of idle business simulators.
