Merge Cakes Game Review
Merge Cakes Game Background
Merge cakes is a pastry- and dessert-themed merging game developed by RavalMatic. Your objective is to merge identical desserts to form more elaborate ones.
How to Play Merge Cakes
If you haven’t played the game before, it will start with a tutorial. This only shows up once unless you clear your cache; your browser saves your game progress.
The goal of this game is to produce more elaborate desserts by merging identical pairs of simpler ones together. Left click or tap on a dessert, then drag it toward another dessert to merge them together. The game generates a new dessert of the lowest value or a random dessert (via the surprise sweet cover) every 10 seconds, though you can speed things up by selecting the tray on the bottom center. Keep merging desserts for as long as you can.
The desserts generated by the sweet surprise cover will be from any of the ones you’ve unlocked so far. However, they will typically produce lower-value desserts.
When you run out of space, the game stops producing new sweets until you clear a space by merging another pair. The game ends when all the spaces are filled and no pairs can be made, though this is seldom possible in practice. The game waylays the issue of running out of space too soon by adding a new space every time you level up. You fill up the level up bar on the top center with each pair you merge.
Upon reaching Level 8, the game also unlocks a second themed store where you can start over. The two stores are themed. The first is a bakery specializing in pastry desserts, while the second is a candy store.
You earn coins every second based on the value of the desserts currently onscreen. Higher-value desserts generate more income than their low-value counterpart. Use your coins to buy individual desserts to help you merge and produce larger-valued desserts faster. These desserts can be bought by opening the store using the store button on the bottom right corner. Purchasable desserts are unlocked as you level up.
Basic Gameplay Advice
Without pressing the tray, the game produces a mergeable pair of pastries or sweets every 20 seconds. For the most part, you can only merge so quickly without purchasing new items, even with the surprise sweets providing higher value items to merge. If you want to speed up the pace of the game, consider buying a few higher-value items with your coins. But don’t be too dependent on buying desserts; they have a ramping cost and will quickly become too expensive.
If you find the pace of the game slowing down considerably (e.g. when you run out of coins to buy new pastries), consider leaving it for a while and come back later. The game generates coins automatically even when you’re not playing. If you leave it overnight, you will find a big payout waiting for you when you pick the game up again.
Reaching a specific number of actions can unlock an achievement. Select the achievement button to keep track of your achievement progress. Each time you reach an achievement, you can claim a reward worth a specified number of coins.
Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy
Lower-value desserts, which are generated autonomously, are the foundation of the early game. However, they become obstructive as you play and can quickly use up space meant for larger-value desserts. Fill in the entire grid to prevent more of them from being generated, then merge whatever pairs are available.
The desserts that you buy offer two benefits: experience and coins. Merely opening the desserts you buy (which come in golden trays) will give you the same experience bonus as merging desserts that were generated by the game. Early on, it makes sense to buy lower-value desserts to unlock achievements quickly, while in the late game it pays to buy and retain desserts to generate more income.
Educational Aspects
The game introduces younger players to different types of desserts. All but the lowest-value desserts are labeled (though some desserts use names unique to the game in part due to similarities with branded products). Besides this, it also teaches resource management skills, especially if the player pays close attention to the math involved. On top of that, the game also teaches patience; good things come to those who wait.
Player Age Recommendations
The game is suited for a wide range of players, ranging from school-age children to adults. The game has no time limit and offers a broad range of unlockable sweet treats, which make it an excellent idle game to while away leisurely afternoons.
