Gummy Blocks Game Review
Gummy Blocks Game Background
Gummy Blocks is a block-filling line maker game inspired in part by Tetris. Instead of falling blocks, you must drag and drop three pieces consisting of blocks onto the grid. The game was developed by Code This Lab.
How to Play Gummy Blocks
On the welcome screen, select the play button to begin. To select, left click with your mouse or tap on the touchscreen with your fingers.
Select a block from the menu, then drag and drop it onto the grid. Form full rows or columns of blocks to clear them. When you run out of space for new blocks, it’s game over. On the game over screen, select the home button on the left to return to the welcome screen or select the reset button on the right to play again.
Basic Gameplay Advice
Three blocks appear on the menu at the bottom row. To get new ones, you must place all three blocks into the grid. The game ends if you are somehow unable to place the last blocks into the grid. You cannot rotate the individual blocks.
You earn points in two ways. The first involves placing the blocks onto the grid. Each piece consists of between one to nine units; you earn points based on the number of units in each piece you place. The second involves clearing full lines of ten units. This will give you ten points on top of the value of the piece you placed in. Clearing several lines at once is worth more points (e.g. two lines is worth thirty points, three is worth sixty points).
The game records your best score. The game shows you your best score on the top right corner of the game screen and on the center of the game over screen.
Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy
The game becomes chance-based as it progresses as likelihood of getting blocks that just don’t fit increases as the grid gets crowded. To keep this from happening too soon, keep the grid as clear as you can by placing more blocks toward the edges instead of the center. Work toward clearing as many lines as you can.
Running out of space for the biggest blocks can end a game prematurely. Try to place in the biggest blocks first. This way, you’ll be sure to have room for them, especially in the early game.
If you’re not happy with how your session is progressing, you can hit the reset button to start again.
Educational Aspects
This is a game highlights the importance of space planning. To last long, players must work toward making the best use of the space available for both the pieces they currently have and the pieces they might receive later.
