Fruit Merge Game Review
Fruit Merge Game Background
Fruit Merge Game is a drop-and-merge style game following similar mechanics to 2048. The game takes inspiration from Suika Game and both share similar rules. The player’s goal is to create the largest fruit, the watermelon, by dropping and merging identical fruits of much smaller value.
How to Play Fruit Merge
Select Start Game at the center of the welcome screen to begin.
You begin with a fruit hovering above the play area. Left click or tap and hold to move the fruit around; there is a line that indicates exactly where it should go down when it falls. Do be forewarned that the fruits move around a bit after being dropped, especially if they land on an incline. Once a fruit drops, the fruit next in line replaces it, you can see the fruit that’s next on the top right corner of the screen.
Fruits that are identical merge together to form a much larger fruit. The game automatically generates the first four kinds of fruit. The others are formed from merging. Keep track of how the fruits merge using the evolution chart available from the information button close to the top left corner of the screen. Keep dropping and merging fruits until you form the largest one, the watermelon.
You earn points based on the value of the fruits merged. A pair of blueberries, for instance, are worth 2 points when merged. The larger the fruit is, the more points you earn when they merge.
Once the pile of fruits get close enough to the top, a dashed line appears. The game ends when your stack of fruits moves past this line.
Basic Gameplay Advice
The key to playing this game effectively is planning ahead. The game shows you both your current and next fruits. Have a spot reserved for both fruits before dropping the current one.
Place your fruits in as orderly an arrangement as you can. Keep the larger fruits together and the smaller fruits on the side. Careless placement can lead to smaller fruits blocking two larger fruit from merging. Likewise, improperly fitted fruit can end up creating large gaps, making the pile of fruit much higher than it needs to be.
Pay attention to the game’s physics. The fruits will bounce and roll around after you drop them, which could lead them to moving where you don’t want them to go. Dropping a fruit one after another will knock the fruits around. Instead, consider waiting until all the fruits stop moving before dropping the next one. This will help ensure that the fruits fall into place where they should.
Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy
To form the watermelon, you must keep merging in an orderly and efficient manner. One strategy involves arranging the fruits from smallest to biggest, usually from the left to right. This way, the fruits you drop merge in an orderly fashion and build up with little to no issue.
Smaller, low-value fruits will be your main obstacle in the late game. Plan around their placement as best you can. If you can’t find a way to merge them, throw them to the sides of the pile to keep them from coming in between larger fruits.
You also can use the game’s physics engine to your advantage. If you find that a pair of fruits are just barely touching one another, consider dropping a fruit next to them to nudge them close enough to merge.
Play the slow game when building up to the watermelon. The game has no timer and there’s no prizes or point bonuses for merging things quickly. Think about your next moves carefully and drop the fruits only when you’re absolutely sure. This is especially important when the pile starts to grow higher and there’s little room for mistakes.
Educational Aspects
The game shows players a series of 11 fruits, though it does not label them. The game uses strategy and has no time element; thus, it is an excellent way to teach the values of patience and methodical thinking.
Player Age Recommendations
We recommend this game for an audience ranging from school-age children to adults. The game is easy to pick up and master and is ideal for gamers who want something mentally engaging yet easygoing.
