Basic Gameplay Advice
The game comprises 9 cups, which consist of at least 10 matches. Beat all 10 matches to win the cup. You can also replay matches if you lose or think you can score better.
You earn points (in-game cash) based on your performance in each level, regardless of whether you win. Every goal you make is worth 25 points, while every goal you make above your opponent’s goals is worth 75 points. Use the points you’ve won to buy upgrades for the next level you play. We recommend using the purchased power ups as the game rises in difficulty.
The game’s paid power ups include the following:
- Freezing the goalie for a turn costs 1,500 points. The goalie unfreezes after you make a goal.
- Receiving 3 extra balls costs 2,500 points.
- Removing all obstacles onscreen costs 5,750 points.
- Removing all rival onscreen costs 7,500 points.
In some levels, you can also receive special in-game power ups for free:
- Collect the blue T with your ball to turn the goalie into a rubber duck and increase your odds of getting past him.
- Dislodge spare soccer balls and see if they can score.
- Hit a streaking dog with a ball to gain 3 extra balls.
Some levels have a time limit. The timer for these levels appear at the top center of the screen. During a timed level, you must often figure it out as you go rather than attempt to strategize your way around them.
Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy
A key element of this game is timing your moves. Pay attention to the movement of the goalie to know when to shoot.
Remember that the ball does not exist in a vacuum; it will interact with other elements on the play area. The ball will bounce of pegs and other items onscreen, which can cause chain reactions. Your opponents and teammates also have their own movements that need to be accounted for. Try to anticipate what might happen before making a shot to ensure that the ball goes where it’s supposed to.
Plan around destroyable pieces. Choose the ones you want to leave intact and the ones you’re fine destroying.
Choose the teammates you pass to with care. There will often be a pattern that determines the order of team you should shoot the ball to. Be aware that, due to the changing layouts of levels with destructible elements, this pattern can change with every goal.
Try to save up points and stock up on purchasable power ups. Some levels, such as the Haiti match in the Gold Cup, are nearly impossible to play without power ups of any sort.
Educational Aspects
The game requires a lot of strategy and anticipatory thinking. Players must understand what to expect before they make a shot and plan their shooting strategies around it. The game also encourages resource management, as players need to earn and save points to spend in more difficult levels of the game.
Player Age Recommendations
This game is appropriate for older school-aged children and above. Younger players may not have the patience for some of the more complex aspects of the game. We recommend this game to soccer fans and players who like complex pinball-like shooting puzzle games.
